A peer-reviewed, open-access journal publishing evaluation research, methodological work and practice papers relevant to Somalia and the wider Horn of Africa. Articles are accepted in English and Somali; abstracts are published in English, Somali and Arabic.

Submission guidelines
Evaluation research, methodology, and practice papers concerning Somalia or of clear relevance to evaluation in fragile and conflict-affected settings. Case studies of evaluation use in government are particularly welcome.
Research articles up to 7,000 words; practice notes up to 3,000 words; policy briefs up to 2,000 words; book and report reviews up to 1,200 words. All submissions require an abstract of no more than 250 words.
Papers reporting primary data collection must state the ethical clearance obtained, how informed consent was secured, and how participant confidentiality was protected. Authors are encouraged to deposit anonymised data in the open data portal.
Editorial screening within two weeks, then double-blind review by two reviewers. First decisions are normally issued within ten weeks. Reviewers are drawn from the SOMES membership and from partner associations.
Submissions are accepted in English and Somali. SOMES provides editorial support for Somali-language submissions and publishes abstracts in English, Somali and Arabic.
